Camper van explorer will test Actis Hybrid’s performance at temperature extremes

An adventurer who is about to embark on a year-long voyage around Europe and North Africa carrying out ‘random acts of kindness’ has insulated his camper van with Actis Hybrid and will put it through its paces in low temperatures and blistering heat.

The demise of the Zero Carbon Homes target doesn’t have to mean that our future housing should be in any way less thermally efficient.

Nicholas Hari, who has revamped an old van and added a bed, bathroom, kitchen and log burner, decided to abandon his comfortable apartment in London to live off grid. He hopes to inspire other people to follow their own dreams – if those involve restoring an old van that is!

“I wanted to become more self sufficient and make my dreams come true,” explained Nicholas.

Actis and distributor SIG Barking donated five rolls of vapour control layer H Control Hybrid with which to insulate his temporary home – to ensure he remains cosy in the chilly continental winters and cool in the hot summers. The Actis technical team gave him training on how to install the product for maximum performance and to ensure there is no risk of condensation.

Nicholas, whose first port of call is Spain later this summer, followed by Portugal and then Morocco before deciding where to head next, will be living and sleeping in temperatures ranging from 30 to minus 30 degrees centigrade, ensuring the HControl Hybrid is well and truly put through its paces.

“The combination of good insulation and a good log burner is definitely money well spent. Thanks ACTIS insulation for your help and your continued support helping me get it right.”

He is documenting his adventures on his Facebooand Twitter pages
