Timber frame specialist chooses quick, clean, easy insulation alternative

A Berkshire timber frame specialist has become so enamoured of the Actis Hybrid insulation system that it has forsaken its previous PIR board in favour of the innovative, quick, clean, easy to use alternative.

Vision Development has already built more than a dozen homes using the products and has just started work on a terraced scheme whose walls and roofs will be insulated with honeycomb insulation Hybris and insulating vapour control layer HControl Hybrid.

And it plans to continue using the CE marked LABC, LABSS and NHBC approved system for all its forthcoming projects.

Vison Development marketing manager Lucy Karpinski, explained the benefits of Hybrid products over its previous solid insulation system. “The ease of installation is attractive to us, as the main USP for timber frame is the speed of construction. There is also minimal waste, which again works well with our timber frame ethic of being environmentally friendly and the insulation being non-toxic. It is much quicker to use than PIR board and takes around half the labour time to install.”

The Hybris is installed at Vision’s Reading factory, while the HControl is added on site.

In addition to being quick, clean and easy to use, the flexible nature of the Hybrid products ensure air tightness and eliminate thermal bridging. They can be easily bent round corners and squashed into strangely shaped gaps, creating a continuous thermal blanket – something difficult to achieve with solid insulation, which has to be cut precisely to size to avoid draught-attracting air gaps.

Among recent projects on which Actis Hybris and HControl Hybrid have played a major role for Vision are two for Maverick Property Investments in Padworth, Berkshire.

All five one bedroom apartments at the 980sq m Westminster Mews in Bath Road have already been sold, with a show home recently opened to market the 13 two to four bedroom homes which are due for completion in the summer.

Vision has now started work on three two bedroom terraced houses just a few yards from Westminster Mews. The Gables will also benefit from 105mm Hybris and HControl Hybrid in the walls and roofs.

Other recent projects using Actis Hybrid include two four bedroom homes in Basingstoke and Eastleigh in Hampshire.

Actis national specification manager Dan Anson-Hart explained: “Now Vision has discovered the Hybrid range this is its new go to solution. It saves them loads of time – in fact it takes about half the time to install compared with their previous products. There’s hardly any wastage and it’s so much cleaner. The installation guys love it.”

The products are supplied by SIG.
