Actis Hybrid expert is among guest speakers at Scandia-Hus open day

Self-builders will be given the chance to find out about how Actis Hybrid products can help them create a thermally efficient home at an open day later this month at Scandia-Hus HQ in Sussex.

Actis South East and London area sales manager Liane Bayliss will be among guest speakers at the event on Saturday March 19, at which builders can also find out about underfloor heating, plot finding and planning from experts in these fields.

Actis Hybrid insulation has been used on all three Scandia-Hus show homes, all of which are available to view at the timber frame specialist’s East Grinstead show centre.

The properties, including the new Mulberry design, have achieved an impressive suite of energy efficiency and environmental performance parameters.

The chalet bungalow offers the same U-values achieved in Scandia-Hus’ initial two show homes, the Adelia and the Oakleigh - 0.14 in the roof and 0.16 in the walls - thanks to the installation of vapour control layer Actis HControl Hybrid and 155mm honeycomb design Actis Hybris in the pitched roof and HControl Hybrid and 105mm Hybris in the walls.

The eco-friendly Mulberry runs on an air source heat pump, and the sustainably sourced timber used creates an air-tight structure.

Actis regional sales manager Liane Bayliss said: “I’ll be talking about the thermal performance and benefits to the house owner of having Actis Insulation within the Scandia-Hus build. Customers can choose or incorporate some of the design features in their own projects. Scandia-Hus has a selection of standard designs for inspiration or can prepare a completely bespoke design to suit their customer’s individual requirements.

Actis Hybrid products are particularly popular with timber frame manufacturers. Giving a hands-on demonstration of the various elements used in a build of this nature will be very educational, both for the potential buyers of Scandia-Hus properties and for specifiers keen to explore different insulation products and their benefits for other build projects.”

Scandia-Hus trialled the Actis Hybrid system a few years ago on its first, contemporary style, show home, carrying out a thermal imaging exercise after completion to help determine whether to switch to using the system for future projects. The results, which showed an impressive lack of thermal bridging, convinced them that this was the best insulation for most of the homes it builds every year.

Liane’s 20-minute session is at 2.30pm and will be followed by a Q and A. She will also be on hand to chat one-to-one to self-builders from 10am on the day.
