Actis launches long-awaited second CPD module – on compliance

Builders, architects and building control officers who have been clamouring for a follow-on CPD training session to satisfy their desire for more information on Actis insulation have at last seen their dream come true!

The new Actis CPD module, certified by the Construction CPD Certification Service, has just been unveiled – and looks at how installers can ensure their insulation and membrane use complies with building regulations.

The original module has seen take up increase by 50 per cent in the past year.

While its natural focus is on compliance with Part L – conservation of fuel and power, the module also examines in detail how all four Actis Hybrid products comply with Parts B (fire safety), C (site preparation and resistance to contaminants and moisture), D (toxic substances) and E (resistance to the passage of sound).

It examines how the blanket style nature of insulation Hybris, insulating vapour control layer HControl Hybrid and insulating breather membranes BoostR Hybrid and BoostR Hybrid Roof all help minimise or eliminate thermal bridging. It also looks at how they achieve superb U-values without risk of condensation.

And it flags up tools which specifiers can use to ensure they make the correct choices to ensure compliance.

The first group to undertake the much-awaited second CPD was a building control team in Cornwall who collectively said it answered every single question they had on the topic!

Elements of the CPD will become a regular feature in the LABC’s monthly roadshows which take place at various locations across England and Wales.

The sessions can also be booked en bloc by local building authorities or architectural practices or as part of a wider construction event.

The format involves a 45 minute presentation followed by a 15 minute Q and A and a chance to inspect insulation materials at first hand and talk to technical experts about compliance and thermal bridging issues.

The free events are organised at venues and times to suit the audience and can include buffet, snacks or breakfast.
