Scandia-Hus 50th birthday open day a hit – with thanks to BBC TV property star

TV property star Billy Byrne, the popular electrician who has featured in the BBC’s DIY SOS programme for many years, joined sales manager Liane Baylis at an event to celebrate the 50th birthday of timber frame specialist Scandia-Hus this weekend.

Billy addressed a champagne reception for 270 guests who, as well as coming to meet the celebrity, wanted to discover more about the products used in the company’s various property designs.

Visitors to the Scandia-Hus show centre in East Grinstead discussed their projects and asked advice from the in-house team and specialist suppliers, including Liane, who oversees sales in the South East and South London area.

“The day was a huge success, with visitors really interested in finding out about the Actis Hybrid system and how it improves the energy efficiency of all the designs Scandia-Hus creates,” said Liane.

“Billy was really friendly and engaged with all of the customers and the suppliers and was very impressed with the high quality of the Scandia Hus buildings. He even took away some of my Actis literature.”

All the Scandia-Hus show homes were insulated with a combination of insulating vapour control layer Actis HControl Hybrid and honeycomb design Actis Hybris, with the first three achieving a U-value of 0.14 in the roof and 0.16 in the walls, and the latest model achieving 0.14 in the walls.

A thermal imaging survey carried out a few years ago on Scandia-Hus’ first Actis Hybrid-insulated show home showed an impressive lack of thermal bridging, confirming that Hybrid was the right choice for the bulk of its ongoing projects.

Scandia-Hus MD Derek Dawson added: “All products have been designed to eliminate thermal bridging by helping to ensure an airtight envelope. The range can achieve the highest U-value requirements with a minimal thickness.

“High performance Hybrid panels also offer the benefit of being simple and quick to cut accurately, minimising wastage and reducing installation time, which can be up to 30% quicker than using alternative methods.”

Guided tours of the latest Scandia-Hus design - a single storey 1,915 sq ft property, the Lodge – and the grand opening of the property, took place at the event.
