Insulation specialist Actis is determined to lead the way in sustainability

Insulation specialist Actis, whose Hybrid range and Eolis HC are becoming increasingly popular, is determined to lead the way in minimising the negative impact of construction materials manufactured across the continent.

Its zero-waste policy and the 100% recyclability of all its products has enabled its Hybris insulation to become the only reflective insulation in Europe to earn international Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze Certification.

Few raw materials and fewer energy resources used during production means carbon emissions produced manufacturing all five Actis products are very low compared with those produced by other insulation products, at less than 2kg per sq m of CO2.

Actis' ‘doing more with less’ approach to sustainability is depicted in a short video. This shows how, for example, the multiple air cavities which form an essential part of Hybris’ honeycomb structure mean fewer raw materials are used to achieve the required thermal efficiency, and that less water and electricity are required for its production.

In fact, its energy represents just two per cent of the manufacturing cost of the products.

By recycling all offcuts and feeding them back into the production process, Actis manages to create a zero waste, infinitely recyclable product. At the user end too, the flexible nature of the product, enabling it to be moulded to fit between timbers, means waste is minimised.

The fact that Eolis HC and the Hybrid products are so light – being largely made of air – means each pallet of product contains more U-value than an equivalent-sized pallet of traditional insulation. And fewer pallets equals fewer trucks, less fuel, reduced road congestion and lower diesel emissions.

Actis UK and Ireland sales director Mark Cooper said: “With the net zero target drawing ever closer, more and more specifiers are appreciating that our range of insulation solutions offer a quick, clean and easy way to create a thermally efficient building.”

In terms of its impact on the health of those both installing and living with the product, the Hybrid range and Eolis HC contain no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or harmful chemical components such as formaldehyde, or phenol, that it is guaranteed non-irritant and classified A+ for indoor air quality according to the NF EN ISO 16000 standard.

For installers of all its products, no dust or harmful fibres are produced, eliminating the need for respiratory protection.
